Countryside and coast
I live in Dorset, where the countryside and coast play a big role in my life. I'm a regular contributor to Countryfile and have recently written features for Somerset Life, easyJet and Discover Britain.
Travel
Travel features
This year I've wrtten about Spain and Austria for the Radio Times, the Morbihan for Brittany Ferries and Yosemite National Park for Active Traveller. As a yachting journalist I've travelled all over the world reporting on cruising destinations and regattas. Even my honeymoon was a yacht charter in Greece!
Wildlife
Wildlife
Hearing endangered gibbons sing in India last year was one of the highlights of my career. I've always loved animals, so it's great to turn a passion into a career by writing wildlife pieces for BBC Wildlife and Countryfile magazines.
Interviews
Celebrity interviews
Musicians Katherine Jenkins and Eliza Doolittle, author Minnette Walters, and TV personalities such as Theo Paphitis and Chris Jarvis are just some of the celebrities I've interviewed for regional entertainment magazine, Listed.
News
News and reviews
As news editor for the yachting press – both digital and print – I often covered boat fires, pirates, drownings and shipwrecks. My favourite story, though, was quite bizarre but had a happy ending: 'Lifeboat called to cricket match.'
Technical
The key to writing technical features is to find the right experts and translate their passion and know-how into words. My features have ranged from satellite phones and marine mortgages to diesel engines and first-aid at sea. Often I'll find myself doing courses or shadowing professionals to find out more.

Real life
Real life and human interest
Interviewing everyday people who've got a story to tell is something I love to do, and many a time I've returned from an assignment with an extra feature about someone I met along the way. This year I've interviewed the MD of Cheltenham Racecourse, Plymouth University graduates and the head of a charity tackling rural isolation.
